Have you ever wondered about the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh and what they offer? Have you heard about the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program? Check out this amazing organization and learn how they can serve your kids and family!

The Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh’s mission is to improve the lives of children and families. Since they opened their doors in 1970, the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh has proved to be an essential organization in the Oshkosh community. This organization serves youth ages 6 to 18 Monday through Friday after school and during the summer. The Club provides a safe environment, excellent facilities, caring adults, and engaging programs.

The Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh’s vision and the main goal is to be a generation-changing leading provider of programs emphasizing youth development services and family outreach support to meet the needs of young people ages 6 to 18 years old and their families.  The Club teaches youth how to live healthy lifestyles, show good character and citizenship, and helps them achieve academic success.

Boys & Girls Clubs all have services that are unique to their organizations. The Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh provides things like “healthy meals and snacks, shower and hygiene support, on-site mental health counseling, grief support groups, dental and vision care, after-school care, transportation services for our youth from school to the Club and much more.” By providing services like these, The Boys & Girls Club hopes to make it easier for kids to focus on participating in their life-changing programs and bring fun into their lives.

The Big Futures Mentoring Program is a collaborative effort of the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh and Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Central Wisconsin which matches adult mentors with youth in 6th through 8th grade at the Boys & Girls Club. The program focuses on helping youth grow academically and develop decision-making and life skills. During the meet-ups, youth will get homework help, read, learn to cook and get access to all Club spaces and programs such as basic needs, mental health support, art room, and active time in the gym.

According to the Boys & Girls Club website, Boys & Girls Clubs have made a strong impact on alumni:

  • 74% of alumni say the Club kept them out of trouble.
  • 66% say they became more committed to their education because of the Club.
  • 87% of alumni say the Club was one of the best things available to kids in their community
